Musings from this week

Macklemore-And We Danced

(1) I'm just sane
(2) oh our glorious brain! Thanks for funding this Pres. Obama!
(3) It's not impossible to be superhuman
(4) I LOVE 50 Cent
(5)When in doubt WWJFD (what would James Franco do--a little obsessed with his hyperproducitivity)
(6) Letter-writing is important!
(7) Lessons of etiquette from Swimming: it's in extremely poor taste to ask a woman her age (unless you are obviously much much older than she is..ie..95 asking a 20yo)
(8) Super Cute tyke trying to get the moon.

See if you can answer these fun questions!

Jay-Z/Linkin Park-Numb/Encore

Gruff...I'm quite sleepy today but as I was watching an episode of Planet Earth a few days back I was thinking to myself a few things...see if you can answer these questions for yourself! (My answers are below)

(1) If you could be any animal what would you be?
(2) What animal would you not like to be? (reason through this in a practical manner.)
(3) What kind of natural phenomenon/geological feature are you? (earthquake, volcano, earth, wind fire etc...)
(4) What's your favorite dinosaur? (I had a pen-pal when I was 8 and proceeded unfriend her because she gave me a poor response to this question.)
(5) Would you rather be a fish or a bird?

(1) Elephant or Lion. Elephants are just so docile and giant. Lions seem to have a nice community going on for themselves.
(2) Polar bear--after watching planet earth, our planet doesn't seem to have a prosperous future for those polar bears due to global warming and melting of polar ice caps.
(3)  Iceberg--nice and shiny from a distance, but crash into it and you are asking for trouble ;)
(4) Stegosaurus or brontosaurus
(5) FISH--I'm afraid of birds and I love aquatic animals.

This Week's Lessons Learned

My penchant for hard core rap: Lil Wayne- No worries

(1) If you are not making someone else's life better then you are wasting your time.
-Will Smith
(2) Being realistic is the most commonly traveled road to mediocrity (the fresh prince again)
(3) Do it or die trying.
(4) Some people go to the superbowl I AM the superbowl. (Jim Carrey, but very applicable to me)
(5) IT'S ONLY TEMPORARY
(6) How do we define ourselves? (i.e. what is your identity?)
(7) My god...we are conditioned to be poor eaters...if I can do one thing with this blog, I'm hoping to at least continue the conversation of eating better, avoiding obesity/diabetes/hypertension etc...
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/24/magazine/the-extraordinary-science-of-junk-food.html?src=me&ref=general
(8) My mood log is genius!
(9) "Ace mcat now and you can just buy some new friends later."
(10) I'm pretty positive that if I was on the stranded carnival cruise ship I would've just called Barack Obama  to come rescue me. How/why these people were on a filthy cruise ship for 4-5 days is simply beyond my comprehension...

Medical Musings

Read my share of very interesting articles this week:

(1) A must-know for most people on the east coast who are more prone to vit D deficiencies:
http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/02/18/vitamin-labels-may-be-wrong/?nl=health&emc=edit_hh_20130219

(2) OK, I must say, thank you Pres. Obama: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/18/science/project-seeks-to-build-map-of-human-brain.html?nl=todaysheadlines&emc=edit_th_20130218
I am extremely fascinated by the brain (esp. with neurodegenerative disorders, neuroplasticity, addiction, etc...) and there is so much that is  simply unknown that more research would be extremely beneficial.

(3) Being conscious of medical errors: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/20/opinion/losing-my-leg-to-a-medical-error.html?src=me&ref=general
I have extremely strong convictions on this front.

(4) Some insight on addiction treatments: http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/02/11/picking-addiction-help/

*Lastly, but not posted are the articles form the times on depuy's faulty hips in the context of medical ethics. Google and read them if ya'll have a chance.

HAPPY GROUNDHOG DAY!

My favorite holiday is here and it appears that spring is on the horizon! Here is poem for your enjoyment:

In the early morning of this winter dawn
Within the woods beside a fawn
Our little friend beneath the burrow
was preparing for his secret shadow

He climbed throughout the frigid night
and hoped and hoped he would not fright.
Upon the hour of seven and thirty
appeared no shadow hence spring comes early!
